Hiranandani Foundation School, Powai, added a new feather to its cultural cap on August 1, 2025, with the grand inauguration of its Sindhi Cultural Club. Conceived to promote cultural pride and awareness among students, the launch was a jubilant celebration of Sindhi heritage, marked by colour, music, tradition, and youthful enthusiasm. A key objective of the Club is to help students understand how the Sindhi language enriches Indian culture and inspires unity in diversity.
The event was held in the school’s Multipurpose Room in the presence of distinguished guests – Ms. Kavita Rijwani and Ms. Sunita Rijwani Menon – and witnessed an enthusiastic turnout of students and staff. The programme commenced on a traditional note with a soulful prayer, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. A special felicitation ceremony was conducted to honour the dignitaries for their guidance and support. The Principal - Mrs Kalyani Patnaik, spoke of the culture and the legacy left behind by some legendary freedom fighters and luminaries. Dr L.H. Hiranandani, our founding father, was remembered, and his values, “Simple living and high thinking”, were emphasised, giving importance to inner richness over external opulence.
Students of HFS Powai showcased the richness of Sindhi culture through an engaging cultural presentation. The audience was treated to a graceful Sindhi folk dance and a well-crafted skit that highlighted Sindhi identity, values, and traditions. Students of Grades 3, 4, and 5 infused energy into the event with their lively group performance to the popular song “Aasee Sindhi Ahyoo”, meaning “We are Sindhis”. The spirited rendition of the all-time classic “Dama Dam Mast Kalandar” had the audience clapping in rhythm, celebrating the vibrant spirit of Sindhi music.
Adding a heartfelt dimension to the celebrations was a short trilingual dialogue delivered by the students in Sindhi, reflecting their pride in being part of the newly launched club. It served as a delightful reminder of the deep connection between language and cultural roots. The programme concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, after which it was officially announced that the Sindhi Cultural Club will commence its regular activities from August 11, 2025.
The launch of the Sindhi Cultural Club at HFS Powai was not merely an event, but a meaningful step towards strengthening cultural identity, inclusivity, and pride among young learners. The celebration left everyone present inspired and moved, reaffirming the school’s commitment to nurturing holistic, culturally aware, and proud global citizens.
