The 14th edition of HFS Model United Nations marked a remarkable milestone in the legacy of one of Mumbai’s most prestigious MUN conferences. Hosted at the elegant Meluha The Fern Hotel in Powai, the conference welcomed a vibrant delegation of approximately 200 student delegates – all poised to immerse themselves in global policy-making, negotiation and diplomacy.
The conference commenced amidst much grandeur with a formal Opening Ceremony inspired by the gravitas of the United Nations. The occasion was graced by Ms. Komal Hiranandani from the Board of Trustees of the Hiranandani Group, alongside His Excellency Mr. Cheong Ming Foong, Consul General of Singapore, who delivered an insightful keynote address underscoring the relevance of dialogue, peace, and cooperation in the 21st century. As always, it was a pleasure to have our Head of School, Mrs Kalyani Patnaik, deliver both the Opening and Closing speeches, where she emphasised that the design of diplomacy must rest on three core pillars — empathy, strategy, and innovation. Being an innovative and compassionate educational strategist, she could keenly feel the pulse of today’s youth and thus eloquently guide the young delegates and learners who came from top schools across Mumbai.
Over the course of three days, delegates participated in six meticulously curated committees simulating real-life UN bodies — the Indian Crisis Cabinet (ICC), Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN), United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) and United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). Under strict formal procedure, students displayed impressive research, negotiation, and public speaking skills. Debate and discussion culminated in the drafting and passing of multiple resolutions grounded in realism, originality and responsibility.
The Closing Ceremony was a befitting finale to the intellectual rigour and spirited diplomacy witnessed across all committees. The ceremony was honoured by the presence of Mrs. Jayasree Ramesh, Chief Operating Officer of the Kotak Foundation, who applauded the initiative for promoting civic engagement and youth leadership, and His Excellency Mr. Le Quang Bien, Consul General of Vietnam, who praised the high calibre of debate and stressed the importance of nurturing globally aware citizens in today’s interconnected era. Mrs Kalyani Patnaik once again graced the stage, offering words of wisdom that re-emphasised the value of dialogue, diplomacy, and global citizenship.
The entire meet was executed with impressive precision and passion. Kudos to the Secretariat, comprising Director General Master Atharva Shinde and Secretary-General Om Chakravarthy Rajkumar, along with a dedicated team of Under Secretaries and various Organising Committees, whose tireless efforts ensured the seamless execution of every detail.
Outstanding delegates were felicitated for their exceptional performance with Best Delegate, High Commendation and Special Mention awards — celebrating not just knowledge, but also discipline, diplomacy and leadership.
As the final gavel fell, one truth emerged — HFS MUN XIV wasn’t merely a conference; it was a movement. A movement committed to shaping articulate thinkers, empathetic leaders and responsible global citizens. In a world often divided by difference, this conference stood tall as a beacon of unity, intellect and hope.
