Last week, Hiranandani Foundation School (HFS), Powai, had the valuable privilege of hosting a distinguished student exchange programme with the students of La Martiniere for Girls School, Kolkata. This initiative, spearheaded by Mrs. Kalyani Patnaik, Principal of HFS, and Mrs. Rupkatha Sarkar, Principal of La Martiniere, was a remarkable endeavour that fostered meaningful inter-school collaboration and enriched cultural understanding. The programme was thoughtfully curated to provide a holistic experience encompassing academic enrichment, cultural immersion, and city exploration. Students participated in a series of educational and creative workshops, including robotics and traditional Warli art.
They delivered engaging presentations that showcased the unique cultural vibrancy and heritage of their cities. The highlight of the programme was the inspiring interaction with Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani, whose insights on professional ethics and perseverance left a profound and everlasting impact on the students. The visiting students were taken on a guided tour of Mumbai’s iconic landmarks. Starting with the scenic Bandra-Worli Sea Link, they journeyed through the newly constructed Coastal Road, arriving at Marine Drive to take in the city’s early morning charm. The tour continued with visits to the beautiful Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the Gateway of India, and the Rajabai Clock Tower, among other architectural marvels Mumbai has to offer. One of the most memorable stops was the visit to the iconic Gaylord’s Bakery and the ever-popular K. Rustom’s Ice Cream Parlour, where students relished a delicious taste of Mumbai’s timeless culinary charm.
Among the many captivating activities, a Gala Night was organised featuring interactive games, lively music, and vibrant entertainment, giving students a joyful opportunity to bond and celebrate the spirit of the exchange. The program concluded with a heartfelt Closing Ceremony, where students of both schools were awarded trophies and certificates. Reflections shared by the girls highlighted how the exchange broadened their horizons and deepened their understanding of each other’s cultures, and formed a connection that never fades — a true testament to the power of education in building bridges across cities and hearts.
